After 12 weeks of musical mayhem, it's time to pick a champion. Head over to Spacebooger's site:

http://www.spacebooger.com/index.php/2009/08/21/friday-night-fights-g7-greatest-hits/

to see the nominees, and leave a comment over there to name your favorite. Voting is open until 6PM Eastern on Friday, August 28th. And if you feel like voting for my Round 3 Thor/Queen entry, I certainly wouldn't object. ;-)

and in case you forgot what that looked like... )

Walk your dog over to Spacebooger's site later tonight, and he'll rock your cradle and take you around the world.

Captain America #106
Jack Kirby & Frank Giacoia

There were a number of Kirby covers on my short list, but ultimately I thought this was the purest example of what he did best: ACTION! Explosive, brilliantly-staged action! The angle, the framing, everything comes together to make you feel like you're right in the middle of an epic clash of titans. There's nothing like a dose of Kirby to get your blood pumping.

Today would have been Jack Kirby's 91st birthday. There's lots of tributes floating around the web, but my favorite is Tom Spurgeon's, which lets the man's work speak for itself:

Wow! An earlier version of Superman by Jerry Siegel and Russell Keaton, before Joe Shuster came on board. The origin has some interesting differences:
