2. Gene Colan / Tom Palmer - Colan's pencils, full of gray shading and implied forms, were a particular challenge to inkers, and some of them just weren't up to the task. But of the people who got it right, nobody got it righter than Tom Palmer. His repertoire of pen-and-ink techniques and zip-a-tone shading preserved every nuance of the pencils, heightening the mood and making Tomb of Dracula a gothic masterpiece.
