Victory!

I can report that the "Personal Challenge System" in Sin Episodes: Emergence does indeed seem to work as advertised. The game's difficulty automatically scales up or down depending on how well you do, and even a complete lame-o like me was able to finish it without wanting to bang my head against the wall. And you can adjust how much the system "helps" you, so if you're a 1337 shooter god who wants a suicidally tough challenge, you can have it. I really hope this idea catches on.

Otherwise, it's a pretty standard first-person shooter. Lots o' killing, with some minor puzzles along the way. There are a lot of "easter eggs" to find -- mostly extra ammo and health, and sometimes just silly bits of humor. The "storyline" is kind of dopey and underwhelming, but nobody buys these things for Shakespeare. Overall, I'd say it's better than Doom 3, but not quite as good as Half-Life 2.

Plus, y'know... cleavage.
