jkcarrierThe song "Rapper's Delight" was released in 1979 by the Sugarhill Gang. It is generally considered to be the first hip-hop single, and certainly the first to become a major hit. It was also the first Top 40 single to be available only as a 12" extended disc -- there was no standard 7" version.
