http://www.newsfromme.com/archives/2008_02_11.html#014809Mark Evanier is reporting the news that writer Steve Gerber has passed away. Gerber had a long career in both animation and comic books, where he created HOWARD THE DUCK, OMEGA THE UNKNOWN, NEVADA, HARD TIME, and many others, as well as writing memorable runs of titles such as MAN-THING, THE DEFENDERS, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and DAREDEVIL. He was one of the "young turks" who broke into comics during the 1970s, bringing a more counterculture/underground sensibility to mainstream superheroes, and paving the way for the more mature and literary titles (Vertigo, et. al.) we see today. A master surrealist and a vicious satirist, Gerber warped my young mind in the best possible way. He was one of a kind, and he's going to be missed.
