DC Villains
Episode 16:
"The Janus Directive"
[Inspired by the crossover written by Paul Kupperberg, John Ostrander, Kim Yale, Cary Bates and Greg Weisman]
Roll Call:
Bucky
Captain Republican
Chemical Lad
Mr. Roboto
One morning at the Belle Reve facility, the members of the Suicide Squad were shocked when a group of invaders appeared, having somehow managed to bypass all their security measures. The attackers were members of G.E.O.R.G.E. (Group for Extermination of Organizations of Revenge, Greed, and Evil), an espionage strike force under the umbrella of Checkmate.

The martial arts expert Dr. Hands, the armored Golden Centurion, the high-stepping Leaper, communications guru The Listener, engineering genius M'sieu Machine, and the walking arsenal Weapons Master descended on the Squad, expressing their dismay that Amanda Waller was consorting with known criminals. However, it seemed the agents of G.E.O.R.G.E. had bitten off a bit more than they could chew, and they were defeated in fairly short order.
[Loot Drops: M'sieu Machine's Beret (Weakness Detection), Weapons Master's Rifle (Special Weapon with Autofire).]
Amanda Waller admitted that she'd been afraid of something like this. Because the Suicide Squad program was officially "off the books", and known only to a few select individuals, once the other U.S. intelligence agencies got wind of it, they were bound to get the wrong idea. She believed she could straighten things out if she could talk one-on-one with Checkmate's leader, Sarge Steel. However, since Checkmate's orders were apparently "shoot on sight", she'd have to arrange that meeting the hard way -- by having her Squad kidnap him!
The team headed to Washington D.C. and used Waller's knowledge of Checkmate security to return the favor and break into their headquarters. However, Sarge Steel had been expecting them, and had brought in super-powered reinforcements of his own: the nuclear dynamo Captain Atom, the mythical warrior Son of Vulcan, and the master of mind and body, Thunderbolt.

The veteran heroes gave a good accounting of themselves, but one by one they fell to the Squad, until finally they were escorting an unconscious Sarge Steel back to Louisiana for a confrontation with Amanda Waller.
[Loot Drops: Captain Atom's Sleeve (Power Blast), Son of Vulcan's Breastplate (Armor, Invulnerability to High Temperatures).]
True to her word, Waller was able to convince Steel that her Suicide Squad was a force for good (more or less), and they soon realized that they had both been manipulated by a third party. While the various intelligence agencies were snooping out each other, the terrorist Kobra Cult was setting up a secret launch site in the Florida Everglades, preparing to launch a killer satellite to blackmail the world. Chemical Lad complained that his was all Checkmate's fault, and they should be the ones to clean up the mess, but Waller sent the Squad into action anyway.
The team arrived just as the satellite-bearing rocket was being hauled out to the launchpad, only to be confronted by Kobra and his lieutenants: the poison-fanged Lady Viper, glowing-eyed Serpentina, and the superhumanly agile and flexible Snake.

This was the Squad's toughest battle yet, as Kobra's paralyzing gas and Serpentina's petrifying gaze kept temporarily incapacitating them in turn, while Snake and Viper dished out heavy damage. An injured Captain Republican opted for a "strategic withdrawal", but the rest of the team finally rallied and took out Kobra and his gang. The planet was safe, and the various spy agencies were at peace...for now.
[Loot Drops: Kobra's Glove (Paralyzing Poison), Serpentina's Earrings (Invulnerability to Energy), Snake's Blood (Healing, Super Speed).]
[The player characters earned 3 character points each, giving them a total of 148.]
