I love Greg Hatcher's book-hunting blogs, where he and his wife go on road trips, scouring used book stores and thrift shops for interesting finds. Here's the first two parts of a series about their trip along the Oregon coast:

But it's pretty cool anyway. ;-)

You think of a person (real or fictional) and it tries to guess their identity. It's scary how quickly it can zero in on the answer. The closest I've come to stumping it was with Eddie Murphy...it guessed "Tracy Morgan" at first, but eventually got it right.

There's an interview with yours truly up on the FRPMods site:

It's mostly about the modding work I've done for the old PC game "Freedom Force", but we talked a little bit about my comics, too.

...I'm back on MySpace. No, I don't know why either. Feel free to add me:

I think I linked to this a while back, but it's been updated with info on making a translucent, glowing version:

Old school Star Trek fans will remember the episode "Assignment: Earth", where Kirk and Spock time-travel back to the 20th century and meet the mysterious agent Gary Seven. The Seven character was supposed to spin off into his own series, but the show never materialized. Scott Dutton has dug up a wealth of information about the aborted series, including the original pitch and early drafts of the pilot script. It is, as Spock would say, "fascinating":

Greg Hatcher talks about some of his favorite paperback cover illustrators, with lots of juicy examples... including a Frank Frazetta WIZARD OF OZ (!!!):

Here's a fun site to browse... a gallery of the work of artist Norm Saunders:

http://www.normansaunders.com/index.html

He's best known for painting the classic "Mars Attacks" trading cards, as well as numerous paperback, pulp, and comics covers. The Batman trading cards are my favorites: lush, lurid and kinda kinky... ;-)

So I broke down and opened up a gallery on deviantART. Like I needed another internet time-waster. But it looks like a really diverse and active community, and I'm looking forward to exploring it more. Within an hour after uploading my stuff, I already had a couple of comments and someone added me to their "friends" list, so that's pretty cool.

This has been linked all over the place, but on the off chance you haven't seen it yet:

MySpace users matched up with Marvel superheroes.

Some of the resemblances are downright uncanny...

Neil Gaiman's speech at the Nebula Awards. What really blows my mind is when he lists the novels that were nominated at the first Nebula Awards in 1965:

All Flesh is Grass by Clifford D. Simak

The Clone by Theodore Thomas & Kate Wilhelm

Dr. Bloodmoney by Philip K. Dick

Dune by Frank Herbert

The Escape Orbit by James White

The Genocides by Thomas M. Disch

Nova Express by William Burroughs

A Plague of Demons by Keith Laumer

Rogue Dragon by Avram Davidson

The Ship That Sailed the Time Stream by G. C. Edmonson

The Star Fox by Poul Anderson

The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch by Philip K. Dick

Jesus Christ. As Gaiman dryly understates: "It was a good year."

Cinescape has some shots of Charlize Theron from the upcoming Aeon Flux movie:

http://www2.cinescape.com/0/editorial.asp?aff_id=0&this_cat=Movies&action=page&type_id=&cat_id=270338&obj_id=43244

Eh, it's not awful. I suppose a 100% authentic Flux outfit and hairstyle was too much to hope for. It's gonna be tough to capture the bizarre, opaque charm of the cartoons, and even if they do, will audiences accept it? Aeon is basically an amoral killing machine, and I fear they'll feel obligated to soften her up to make her more "sympathetic". Ah well, should be good for eye-candy, if nothing else.
