Dave Cockrum, R.I.P.

Several sources are reporting that artist Dave Cockrum has passed away, due to complications from diabetes. He was 63 years old.
Cockrum is perhaps best known for his work on DC Comics' LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES and Marvel Comics' X-MEN -- two franchises that were pretty marginal when he got hold of them, but which soon became best-sellers due in no small part to his slick, sexy, and modern style. He also created his own superhero team, THE FUTURIANS (one of the first original graphic novels published by Marvel), and was a prolific cover artist and character designer.
A terrific talent and, by all accounts, a pretty terrific human being as well. Deepest condolensces to his family, friends, and colleagues. He will certainly be missed.
