or, How to Draw Comics the JKC Way.
1. The Rough. Very loosely blocking out the figures, seeing how everything will fit on the page.

2. Reference. I could've just made the camp up out of my head, but a Google image search turned up some interesting examples of log buildings from various cultures.

3. The Pencils. If someone else was going to ink this, I'd make it tighter, but this is good enough for my own purposes.

4. The Inks. Tightening up the details and spotting the blacks. Note that at this point, I put the reference aside and don't look at it again, so the end result is more my impression, rather than just a carbon copy of the photo.

5. The Final. Lettering and colors added. The lettering actually gets done a little earlier, during the Rough and/or Pencil stage, just to make sure it all fits. If it doesn't, it's easy enough to move things around to make room.
