Today's pick is...

Diesel Sweeties
by R Stevens
(I'm fudging a little on this one -- it's primarily an online strip, but it was syndicated in newspapers for about a year and a half.)
Take an extremely odd group of characters (a couple of robots, an ex porn-star, an indie music snob, a guy in a bear suit, a token Canadian, some sentient home appliances), make it look like it was drawn with an Etch-a-Sketch, throw in plenty of snark and nerdy pop-culture references, and that's Diesel Sweeties. I'm impressed with how much expression Stevens gets out of his deliberately lo-rez art style, and how much depth his high-concept characters have developed over the years.
