DC Villains
Episode 23:
"Attend or Die!"
[Inspired by
Secret Society of Super-Villains #1 - "Attend or Die!" by Gerry Conway
The Atom #23 - "Riddle of the Far-Out Robbery!" by Gardner Fox]
Roll Call:
Bucky
Captain Republican
Chemical Lad
Mr. Roboto
The ex-Suicide Squad found themselves on a first class flight to San Francisco, and then taken by limousine to a downtown skyscraper, where they were told to wait in a luxurious office suite. Finally, their host appeared and introduced himself:

"They call me Manhunter. I am a clone of a man named Paul Kirk. He was a great hero, who gave up his life to save the world...the sap. I'm not making the same mistake." He then explained that his employer (who chose to remain anonymous for now) was putting together a "Secret Society of Super-Villains" as part of his ultimate plans for world conquest. They would have high positions of power in his new order, and in the meantime, would become very rich.
But first, they would have to prove themselves. A group of scientists based there in San Francisco had developed a new synthetic metal they called "Inertron", supposedly denser and more resilient than any substance previously known. Their job was to steal the sample that had been created. Another team of villains was also being sent after the Inertron, and whichever team was successful would move on to the next phase of testing.
Arriving at the laboratory, the team soon encountered the opposing team: The swashbuckling Captain Stingaree, Chronos the time-thief, Silver Ghost, with his Midas-like silver touch, and the armored giant Sizematic.

For all their bluster, the rival team proved little hindrance to our protagonists, who shrugged off their attacks and quickly pummeled them into unconsciousness. The Inertron sample was acquired, and they moved on to the next round of competition.
[Loot Drops: Captain Stingaree's Sword (Special Melee Weapon with an Electrical Bolt Contact Attack), Chronos' Metronome (Transmutation - Causes target to move and attack at half speed).]
Back at the so-called "Sinister Citadel", Mr. Roboto wondered how soon he could get an Inertron body to replace his current one. Manhunter assured him that was the plan, but it would take some time to analyze and synthesize the metal sample. In the meantime, they had another item to acquire: a compact power source called a Radion-Ball, created by scientists working in Ivy Town. Though no bigger than a grapefruit, it could generate enough power to light up a city. Needless to say, it could also be a very potent weapon. Once again, two teams of villains would compete to see which one could complete the heist.
After a cross-country jet trip to Ivy Town, the villains squared off against their competition: the plant-controlling Floronic Man, the super-swift Reverse Flash, the renegade Green Lantern known as Sinestro, and The Wizard, master of mysticism.

This crew proved a bit tougher than the previous one -- The Floronic Man conjured up a cactus that fired poisoned needles, while Reverse-Flash pounded on multiple targets simultaneously with his vibrating fists. Sinestro used his solid-energy constructs both to assault his foes and protect himself from harm. The Wizard's ability to turn invisible, reflect attacks back on the attacker, and to fire powerful disintegration beams gave the team some tough moments. But through determination and teamwork [i.e., the entire team dog-piling on their enemies one at a time], they pulled out a victory and captured the Radion-Ball.
[Loot Drops: Floronic Man's Needles (Special Ranged Weapon with Poison/Venom Contact Attack), Wizard's Prism (Reflection - Kinetic).]
Returning to San Francisco, they handed the sphere over to Manhunter, who congratulated them and said they had "just about proven themselves". "'Just about'?" complained Chemical Lad. But just at that moment, the wall of the meeting room exploded as a quartet of familiar figures burst into the room: the Darknight Detective, Batman, J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter, Superman, the Man of Steel, and the Amazing Amazon, Wonder Woman.

Without saying a word, the Justice League heroes attacked. Batman tossed armor-piercing Batarangs, Superman and Wonder Woman delivered super-strength punches, and Martian Manhunter turned invisible and sniped at the villains with his Martian Vision [Power Blast]. At one point, an already-damaged Mr. Roboto made the mistake of firing his Vibratory Blast at Wonder Woman, only to have her deflect it off her bracelets right back at him, knocking him out.
When the team managed to take out Martian Manhunter, he literally fell to pieces, revealed as a robot. Realizing they were not fighting the real JLA, the team rallied and managed to dismantle the entire squad of machines. Manhunter (who'd conveniently ducked out during the fight) re-appeared and congratulated them on their victory. This had been the final test, and they were now full-fledged members of the Secret Socity of Super-Villains.
[Loot Drops: Batman's Cowl (Heightened Expertise), Superman's Knuckles (Heightened Attack), Wonder Woman's Bracelets (Heightened Defense).]
[The player characters earned 3 character points each, giving them a total of 169.]
