Wizard World Chicago
Aug. 10th, 2006 12:46 pmSome random notes on WizWorldChi...
Names Dropped:
Ate pizza with Paul Sizer, Carla Speed McNeil, and her friend Shawn.
Chatted with Jane Irwin for about ten seconds before Paul's cell phone crapped out. (Everyone send good vibes and prayers to Jane, who couldn't make it to the show due to a death in the family.)
Broke the easel I'd borrowed from Karen O'Donnell. Oops.
A resourceful fellow from down the aisle fixed it with duct tape. Yay.
Sat to the left of the cool & talented fellows from RPGStyle.com.
Sat to the right of Marvel/Top Cow inker Rob Hunter and his artist friend Desiree, who should have their own sitcom.
Saw Will Pfeifer's baby pictures. (Pictures of his new baby daughter, I mean, not pictures of baby Will. That would be weird.)
Babbled like an idiot to David Mack. (Longtime readers of my con reports may recall that this is something of a tradition.)
Sold a Lady Spectra TPB to
madolen, after she assured me that it wouldn't endanger her status as moderator at the superhero-phobic Engine board.
Finally got to meet Tom Stillwell, Bradley Bowers and a bunch of other folks from the Freedom Force fan community.
Had a mini AOLeague reunion with Terry, Jak, and Mike.
Continued the tradition of making lunch plans with Terry, and then him not showing up.
Got back at Terry by making dinner plans and then not showing up.
Felt lazy and inadequate as Stan Yan described all the cool comics & freelance projects he's working on.
Pestered Josh Blaylock to do more MISPLACED.
Reminisced about the good ol' days of small press with David Hedgecock.
Also ran into:
sharkipede, Mark Innes, Jamie Filer, and probably a bunch of others whom my sieve-like brain can't recall right now. Sorry!
Things Overheard:
"I'm sweating like a whore in church."
"The fox, the hare, and the corn are all now on the same side of the river, and the only thing that got eaten was my brain."
"First you join the SPS, then you work for DC for a while, then maybe you're good enough for the UFO."
"He was sleeping on the Gene Day Memorial Couch."
"So you're making him take out the garbage?" "Yes, as all men should."
"Can you make the drawing... ah... kind of... you know... um... erotic?"
"It'll be like McDonald's. Only instead of 'Happy Meals', we'll have 'Exciting Meals'."
"Hand-crafted from the finest toothpicks."
"I tend to ramble."
"C'mon, buy some comics! I need gas money to get home."
T-Shirts Seen:
Bastards of the Universe
I killed Jason Todd, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt
Emma is hotter than Jean
Untalented hanger-on
According to the rules, not only are you wrong, you're also a dick
Don't make me go Zelda on your ass
